Helping You Find the Right Detox Program in Arizona

For people with strong addictions to drugs or alcohol, the first step to fighting addiction safely is usually detoxification (usually called just detox). This process allows people to begin addiction treatment programs with medical supervision and care designed to reduce the risk of unsafe or severe withdrawal symptoms.

Holdfast Recovery in Prescott is proud to be partnered with many of the most trusted and experienced detox treatment centers in Arizona. If we believe that your rehab program should start with detox treatment to prioritize your health and safety, we can readily refer you to the right detox center based on your specific needs.

What is Detoxification?

Detox is the medically supervised process of removing all toxins from a patient’s system so they can start rehab in stable health. Drug and alcohol use can cause a chemical dependency on those substances, so when you stop using them, you can suffer withdrawal symptoms, some of which can be dangerous. With medical detox, though, your dependency on those substances can be gradually reduced, rather than stopping all at once (or “cold turkey” as is sometimes said), which reduces the risk of severe withdrawal.

Typical Detox Processes

Going through detox can take between three and ten days depending on your level of chemical dependency on an addictive substance. We can estimate how much time you will need based on your treatment history and health, but ultimately, the decision will be between you and the detox center you choose through our detox referral services.

During the typical detox process, you can expect these steps:

  • Assessment: A detox expert will assess your health and the type and severity of your addiction to create a detox plan tailored to your needs.
  • Supervision: From the start of your detox process, you will receive supervision from trained medical professionals. They will monitor your health and make adjustments to your detox treatments in response to your progress if the need arises.
  • Withdrawal: You should expect to experience some type of withdrawal symptoms. Detox can rarely prevent withdrawal entirely, so it is primarily designed to reduce those symptoms and their severity.
  • Administration: In many cases, detox will involve the use of controlled medications that can effectively reduce cravings during the detox process. Some medications are similarly designed to act like the addictive substance in question and mitigate withdrawal symptoms without introducing any of the dangerous or addictive side effects of the actual drug.

Different Detox Programs for Different Substances

We are partnered with detox centers around Arizona, and most offer a variety of detox programs that can be adjusted based on the substance that has caused your addiction.

Holdfast Recovery can refer you to a detox center that has treatment plans for:

  • Alcohol addiction: Alcohol detox is important for anyone who has been addicted to alcohol for a while or who frequently binge drinks. The withdrawal symptoms of quitting alcohol suddenly can be life-threatening, including seizures and heart failure. Detox can reduce the risk of these symptoms and requires about a week of care to make sure you stay safe and healthy throughout.
  • Benzodiazepine addiction: Benzo withdrawal symptoms are called “rebound” symptoms because they mostly manifest as anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, and epilepsy, which are all symptoms that benzodiazepine drugs normally treat. Detox will usually last around 10 days or until all rebound symptoms cease.
  • Opioid addictionOpioids and opiates like fentanyl and heroin can cause extremely dangerous withdrawal symptoms like severe dehydration and gastrointestinal complications. Due to the highly addictive nature of opioids, it is recommended that anyone who wants to challenge their addiction to opioids start with detox, even if they have only used such substances for a short period of time.
  • Stimulant addiction: A stimulant or “upper” makes people feel more alert and energetic while also creating a falsely elevated mood. During withdrawal, stimulant addiction can cause a severe mood crash that might bring about suicidal ideation. Therefore, starting a stimulant addiction treatment plan with detox is highly recommended.

The above are only a few types of ways that detox programs can be modified based on the addictive substance in question. No matter what substance has caused your addiction, we can help you find the right detox center in Arizona to get you started.
